We offer you our accumulated knowledge and <a href=\"https:\/\/josh.org\/resources\/apologetics\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">research<\/span><\/a> to help you find truth and encouragement to live a healthy and whole life in Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Loving Hard-to-Love People<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the baseball movie <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/A_League_of_Their_Own\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>A League of Their Own<\/i><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about a women&#8217;s professional team named the Rockford Peaches, team manager Jimmy Dugan delivers this powerful quote after his player Dottie says she&#8217;s quitting the team to go home.\u00a0<\/span><i><\/i><br \/>\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/GOdAbjebs-g<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesus spoke similar words to his disciples when He said,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+John+4%3A7&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>1 John 4:7<\/i><\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;If you love only those who love you, what good is that?&#8221; <\/span><\/i><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+5%3A46-48&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>Matthew 5:46-48<\/i><\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Dugan was talking about baseball, of course, and Jesus was talking about loving hard-to-love people. But they&#8217;re making the same point.<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you having trouble loving the coach who won&#8217;t play you, the neighbor who disrespects you, the former best friend who has stabbed you in the back? <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loving hard-to-love people is impossible without God&#8217;s help. And God totally knows that. Yet He says to do so, if we really want to say that we love Him.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8220;has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/ROM.5.5.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romans 5:5<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we spend time with God, handing Him our hurts and anger and disappointment, He will give us peace, which helps us to love hard-to-love people. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Love is His greatest commandment to us, right? <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our commitment to reflecting His love will, at times, be incredibly hard for us<span class=\"s1\">. Certainly way harder than any game of baseball! But let&#8217;s give it our all, refusing to quit, even when we occasionally strike out. Every day is another opportunity for us to love hard-to-love people, which God uses to further develop our Christ-like character.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><i>It&#8217;s supposed to be hard. If it weren&#8217;t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.<\/i><\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p><b>REFLECT: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who do you find really hard to be around? Who do you find it really hard to be nice to? Think of something you can do this week to reflect God&#8217;s love toward this person. It might be as small as acknowledging this person&#8217;s presence. It might be doing this person a favor.
