Because He&#8217;s Trustworthy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><h3><strong>Throughout Scripture we are instructed to lean into the fact that God is trustworthy. We are to free our minds and hearts of worry. We are to give up control (as if we had any to begin with!). We are to entrust our lives to Him.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The universe is a messy place, filled with forces beyond our control. That must be one reason why God put so many verses in His Word about trusting Him. Two of my favorites: \u201cTrust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%2026%3A4&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaiah 26:4<\/a>), and \u201cTrust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/proverbs\/3-5.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Proverbs 3:5<\/a>).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So how can we hope to put out the \u201cfires\u201d that overwhelm us, when we\u2019re consumed by worries and conflicts and problems? How do we gain the knowledge that God is trustworthy?<\/span><br \/>\n<em><strong>We learn from personal experience. We can also look at biblical examples of ordinary people, such as Ruth, Abraham, and Job.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60213\" style=\"width: 429px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img alt=\"trustworthy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60213 \" src=\"https:\/\/sites-stage.josh.org\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/607\/2021\/03\/trustworthy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"339\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Why God? blog #hurthealedwhole<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>IS God Trustworthy?<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>RUTH<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this Bible story we learn that Naomi and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblicalarchaeology.org\/daily\/biblical-topics\/hebrew-bible\/the-story-of-ruth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruth<\/a> have both become widows. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>With limited means, and lacking the protection of husbands, the women face a grim future.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet Ruth demonstrates integrity, loyalty, and love when she chooses to forsake her country of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleodyssey.org\/en\/places\/main-articles\/moab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moab<\/a> after Naomi, her mother-in-law, decides to return home to Judah. Ruth&#8217;s decision is incredibly selfless; before her lies an arduous journey <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a lifetime of service to Naomi. Naomi encourages Ruth to stay in Moab and find a new husband, but Ruth is not having it.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDo not urge me to leave you <i>or <\/i>turn back from following you,&#8221; Ruth doggedly pledges. &#8220;Where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ruth+1%3A16&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruth 1:16<\/a>).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t miss this: Ruth is ALL IN. In making her decision, Ruth also chooses God and His ways without reservation.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God blesses Ruth for her humility and servant attitude. He not only gives her a wealthy husband (a relative of Naomi\u2019s, which also restores Naomi&#8217;s good fortune and social standing), but also a baby who becomes the grandfather of King David, <em>a direct ancestor of Jesus.<\/em> Cool!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What I love about this story is God&#8217;s provision. Neither woman, as they imagined their bleak futures, had any inkling that God was directing their steps to bless them <em>and<\/em> accomplish His plans to bring Jesus to earth.<\/span>\u00a0<b><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>ABRAHAM<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the book of Genesis we learn that Abram, at 75, is already an old man. At 65, his wife, Sarai, is also old. But God visits the childless couple, promising that one day their direct descendants <em>will be as plentiful as the stars<\/em>. This is the stuff of fantasy novels! <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abram <em>chooses<\/em> to believe God.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd [God] took [Abram] outside and said, \u2018Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.\u2019 And He said to him, \u2018So shall your descendants be.\u2019 Then [Abram] believed in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LORD<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; and [God] reckoned it to him as righteousness.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%2015%3A5-6&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesis 15:5-6<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Over the next two decades, as God holds back on his promise, Abram\u2019s faith wavers. Sarai\u2019s crashes and burns. <\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Give birth in her eighties? Impossible! <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only as Abram nears the VERY ripe age of 100, does God finally invite Abram to step into His promise. <em>(God enjoys the miraculous!)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen Abram was ninety-nine years old, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LORD <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appeared to him and said, \u2018I am <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/bible-study\/topical-studies\/what-is-the-meaning-of-the-name-shaddai.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Shaddai<\/a> \u2014 God Almighty. Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.\u2019 At this, Abram fell face down on the ground.&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/genesis\/17\/1-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesis 17:1-3<\/a>)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the covenant, God changes Abram&#8217;s name to Abraham, which means \u201cFather of a great multitude,\u201d and Sarai\u2019s name to Sarah, which means \u201cPrincess or Lady.\u201d Despite her lack of faith, God still calls her into His vision for her. God wants to do that for us, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>JOB<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job might be one of the most difficult books in the Bible to understand. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why, we wonder, would God allow <a href=\"https:\/\/bibleproject.com\/blog\/gods-gives-job-tour-wise-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Job<\/a>, whom the Bible describes as \u201cupright and approved by God,\u201d to endure so much suffering if God is good and loving? <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God sometimes allows difficult circumstances to teach us and help us (or others) to grow. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>In Job&#8217;s case, God allows Satan to rip Job&#8217;s cushy life to shreds. He kills Job&#8217;s children. He steals Job&#8217;s crops and livestock. And he tortures Job by covering his body in painful sores. Despite the incredible loss and suffering, Job does <em>not<\/em> follow his wife\u2019s advice to \u201ccurse God and die.\u201d But he <em>does <\/em>question God\u2019s justice and benevolence &#8212; just as you and I would have likely done. <\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God replies. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And as He calls<\/span>\u00a0Job to explain the origins of the universe, Job comes to realize the limitations of the human mind. More importantly, he comes to trust in God\u2019s justice.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Then Job answered the LORD and said, \u2018I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.'&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Job%2042%3A1-2&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Job 42:1-2<\/a>)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God restores to Job all that was taken. Satan can only slink into the shadows, licking his wounds at having failed to steal Job&#8217;s trust in God.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>God IS Trustworthy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You and I will never have God\u2019s understanding. We don&#8217;t know how He is directing our path. So we must <em>choose<\/em> to trust Him. <em>What God allows, He has purpose for.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, God understands that our trust can take time to grow. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But in our attitude of surrender, which starts with our choosing to open our hearts to Him, God is pleased. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we <\/span>allow God to take control and trust Him in all things, we can live with hope and strength. <em>And we can fully lean into the assurance of His unceasing love.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\nI continue to have my own moments of digging deep to trust God. I&#8217;ve had financial scares, health scares, and floundering when I feel out of control. But I have learned the truth of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+18%3A27&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke 18:27<\/a>: \u201cWhat is impossible with man is possible with God.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I leave you with this promise from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans%208%3A28&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romans 8:28<\/a>: \u201cAnd we know that in all things God <em>works for the good<\/em> of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"border: 2px solid #cccccc; background: #d7d7d7; padding: 18px; color: #1a2c63; text-align: center;\"><strong>God wants us to trust like Ruth, when our future is unclear. God wants us to trust like Job, when life feels dark and painful. God wants us to trust like Abraham, when we\u2019re facing the impossible. God is trustworthy. Believe!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&gt;&gt;&gt; God wants a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites-stage.josh.org\/main\/resources\/spiritual-growth\/know-god\/\">relationship with you<\/a>.
