A <i>Terrible, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Alexander-Terrible-Horrible-Classic-Board\/dp\/1442498161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horrible<\/a>, No Good, Very Bad Day <\/i>where one thing after another keeps piling up, as it did for Job, one of the Bible&#8217;s most inspiring characters?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne day<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2026 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Job%201%3A13-22&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a messenger came to Job<\/a><\/strong> and said, \u2018&#8230;the Sabeans attacked\u2026\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While he was still speaking<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <em>another<\/em> messenger came and said, \u2018&#8230;fire\u2026burned up the sheep and the servants\u2026\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span>While he was still speaking<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <em>another<\/em> messenger came and said, \u2018The Chaldeans\u2026swept down on your camels\u2026\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span>While he was still speaking<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <em>yet another<\/em> messenger came and said, \u2018Your sons and daughters \u2026 are dead\u2026\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>In all this Job did not \u2026 blame God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72151  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites-stage.josh.org\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/607\/2022\/12\/blame.jpg\" alt=\"blame God\" width=\"435\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Is Job&#8217;s response amazing, or what?!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seems like the <i>whole past year of my life <\/i>has been mostly made up of bad days. One very bad day, in particular, everything seemed to go south in just hours: expensive car repairs, a sprained ankle, hospital admissions, and even a stroke and the deaths of people I love.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>In our moments of \u201cNot one more thing!,\u201d do we find it in us to respond like Job? Or is it our instinct to blame God?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it\u2019s perfectly normal and healthy to deal with high stress with crying, yelling, or a long nap, our minds typically tempt us to search for who or where we can place blame or guilt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In sharing my frustration with others, someone brought up <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.learnreligions.com\/the-first-noble-truth-450089\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buddhism\u2019s First Noble Truth<\/a><\/strong>: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAll of the things a person goes through in life cause suffering\u2026\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would mostly agree. Even the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2016%3A33&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bible<\/a><\/strong> says<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2016%3A33&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">,<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn this world you will have trouble and suffering\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But Buddhism and Christianity diverge significantly:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buddhism:<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201c[A person] cannot do anything about it.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christianity: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut cheer up! I have conquered the world.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deep in my despair, I won&#8217;t blame God. Because he promises that he is more powerful than our troubles and suffering. As we turn to him:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can have <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">calm within our mind and body<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to think clearly and ride out the storm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can hang onto the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promise that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>our problems won\u2019t last forever<\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are reminded that our <em>problems often <\/em><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resolve<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as we wait and watch.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don&#8217;t always understand the purpose in my suffering, but I can place my hope and trust in God for healing, provision, and insights. I can<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> experience a sense of deep calm, instead of being wrecked by the chaos. I wonder if Job was able to not blame God because he, too, had learned that God keeps his promises. Despite the calamity trying to overwhelm him, Job clung to God&#8217;s goodness and power.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>God promises to work for the good of those who love him, which gives us hope and solid footing when the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days attempt to destroy us.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When some of these days literally brought me to my knees, I was only able to keep going because God has a proven track record with me. I have seen him show up, time and time again, ultimately providing for my needs and hurts &#8212; whether a new job, car, or a calmed spirit. So, no, I won&#8217;t blame God for my very bad days. He&#8217;s my rock and anchor when the waves of life get really big.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&gt; Is God good? Is he trustworthy?
